Privacy Policy

Caretta a la Vista (under any of the names it may have had in the past or may acquire in the future) collects, among other things, data and images shared by volunteers for use by nesting event managers. To protect the privacy of its volunteers, Caretta a la Vista aims to avoid the collection of personal information, that is, information that can be used to individually identify a specific natural person. Only a contact phone number is requested in order to be able to reach the volunteer and ask for more information about the sighting. The exact locations of sightings are collected during the submission of the alert and may coincide with the exact location of volunteers, but this information is used solely to locate the sighting. Metadata from photographs is not requested, and if the photographs sent to Caretta a la Vista through the application contain metadata, such metadata will be removed once the image reaches the project’s server, with the exception of the geolocation of the photograph, which will remain associated with the photograph and may be published.

Caretta a la Vista has mechanisms to prevent, as far as possible, that personal data mistakenly sent by users, despite anonymization measures, is shared with the general public. Likewise, Caretta a la Vista applies measures to detect if personal data has been shared and to delete it from the database, as far as possible. Nevertheless, if in any particular case these measures do not prevent the publication of personal data, those who detect it are encouraged to notify the managers of Caretta a la Vista, in order to proceed with its removal from the public space if possible. It should be noted that if participants share their sightings in any public medium, such as social networks, they may be associating these observations with their personal data (for example, their personal social media account), thus voluntarily waiving anonymity.

Caretta a la Vista allows participants to maintain their data while preserving anonymity by not using any authentication system.

A detailed list of the information collected by Caretta a la Vista is as follows:
 - Types of sightings observed by volunteers. This includes the precise location of the volunteer and of the sighting, the photograph of the sighting, and the volunteer’s contact phone number.
 - Information about the phone model, battery, language settings, and the version of the application (that is, the installed version and the operating system and its version on which it is installed). This information is used to help the research team improve the application.
